How You Can Construct A Simple Bird Feeder Easily And At No Cost

If you want to add a new bird feeder to your backyard, it's not necessary to go to the store and pay lots of money for one. You actually can construct bird feeders at your home. It's easy and fast, and you are not going to require that many materials for it either.

What you need to start off with is a basic one gallon milk jug. Obviously, wash it out thoroughly first to make sure there isn't any remaining residue from the milk in it. Allow it to dry, and when it's dry, then place the cap on the jug and stand it up in the area you're going to work.

On each side of the handle, cut holes that are around three inches in diameter. The openings need to be fairly high on the jug so the bird seed will not leak out of the jug when you are all set to use it.

Beneath the big holes, you can use a nail to punch a little hole, in which you'll be able to insert dowels. The dowels are where the birds can come and perch to nibble on the food. Just be sure that the perch sticks out two inches on each side so birds can easily perch.

Use the nail again to punch openings in the milk jug neck. Do this an inch or so below the cap of the milk container. Then you will get some wire and run it through the holes, twisting it together on top. That is what you are going to use to hang up the bird feeder.

Now you are finished creating your simple bird feeder. All you need to do is fill it up with some birdseed. Take it outdoors and use the wire ends to suspend it from a tree or another type of support in your backyard. In order to attract a variety of birds, go with black oil sunflower seeds in your new bird feeder.
